Dr. Di Cristina Torres is a mechanical engineer in the National Fire Research Lab (NFRL) of the Fire Research Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). His research interests include the coupling between fire dynamics, fluid mechanics, and combustion, convective heat transfer, and advanced fire metrology.
Dr. Di Cristina Torres is currently working on expanding the Fire Calorimetry Database (FCD) and bringing a large-scale wind tunnel online for experiments studying Wildland-Urban Interface fires. As part of the NFRL Dr. Di Cristina Torres has also assisted in characterizing velocity measurement probes and measuring the vent flows of large-scale structural fires.
Dr. Di Cristina Torres joined NIST in 2021 as a post-doctoral researcher where he examined the air entrainment into fuel beds due to columnar vortex formation. He received his PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace engineering from the University of Notre Dame where his research focused on wind driven fire spread and the interactions between turbulence and flame behavior.
